Thousands of people dress up as Mike Ditka in Chicago (Photo)

Former Chicago Bears head coach Mike Ditka is a bit of a celebrity in the Windy City, understandably. But what would make thousands of people brave the cold and dress up like their favorite coach, complete with faux mustaches? The Ditka Dash, of course.

The first ever Ditka Dash took place this past weekend in mild temperatures and the man himself, Mike Ditka of course showed up to cheer on the racers in the process.

The 5K run featured thousands rocking Ditka’s famed aviator shades, the 70’s ‘stache and t-shirts handed out that replicated the once-popular sweatervest Ditka used to wear.

I’m not sure if the race was more of a true 5K run or just an excuse to randomly dress up like the former Chicago Bears head coach. Either way, it seemed to accomplish the intent as the Ditka Dash drew over 10,000 people, the vast majority completely geared up to look like their favorite coach.
