The San Francisco 49ers have not had a good go of it lately against division rival Seattle. In fact, they have been outscored 71-16 over the last two matchups.
The last time the 49ers defeated the Seahawks was at Candlestick Park, however, last October 18th in a close 13-8 contest. It has been roughly five years since Seattle won in San Francisco.
Well, 49ers’ head coach Jim Harbaugh has a message for fans. It is most likely a bit late to make a push for the division title – San Francisco trails Seattle by 3 games with 4 weeks left – but Harbaugh is invoking some rather hilarious images with his latest comments, and expects a loud and fired up crowd come Sunday.
"“If this doesn’t fire up the fans, then what does?” Harbaugh said, according to Matt Maiocco at CSN Bay Area. “Abraham Lincoln riding across the field in a frock and a top hat, riding a horse and waving an American flag? I doubt that would fire them up if this game doesn’t fire them up. People who really love football would be fired up by this matchup.”"
Can’t we have both of those things, Jim?
Earlier in the week, a memo was reportedly sent out telling 49ers fans when and how to cheer. So it seems like some in San Francisco might be a bit concerned about fan participation in their final season, and second-to-last game, at “The Stick”.
