Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman gave rookie wide receiver Kenny Stills a late hit on their Monday night match up. Sherman gave Stills a late shove in the back of the end zone on an incomplete pass.

According to Katherine Terrell of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Sherman was fined $7,875 for that hit. Stills isn’t so sure that the play, which did result in an unnecessary roughness penalty, deserved a fine. Though a fine that is less than $8,000 is less than some fines we’ve seen the NFL dish out.

“I don’t think it deserves a fine,” Stills said.  “We had just been talking trash to one another, and I guess he saw an opportunity to take a shot.  It’s football.  You’re going to get hit. . . .  I didn’t take any offense to it.  I think it’s funny.”

Stills will have a tough game on Sunday against a Carolina Panther secondary that plays with a chip on their shoulder. After playing against the Seahawks secondary he might be prepared for what they have to throw at him.
