Mike Smith: Eddie Lacy is as ‘big concern’ for Falcons defense
By Mike Dyce
The Green Bay Packers have found a quality running back in Eddie Lacy. He has rushed for 822 yards on 207 carries this season, an average of four yards a carry. If the Atlanta Falcons are going to have success over the Packers, they’ll need to stop Lacy and put the game on the shoulders of quarterback Matt Flynn.
The Falcons haven’t been good against the run particularly, their defense was torched for 195 yards against the Buffalo Bills. That included 149 yards from running back C.J. Spiller on 15 carries.
“The way we’ve been playing run last couple weeks it’s a big concern,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said this week, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Green Bay had made a concerted effort to run the football this season. We will see a big, strong running back this week who we have to put multiple pads on. We have to tackle much better than we did Sunday.”
Former Falcons running back Jamal Anderson said Lacy’s size can make defensive backs make business decision.s
“Do I want to get in front of this guy? People have to think about this,” Anderson said, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Eddie’s a little taller than me, too. So if he comes, and he comes with a certain presence and he’s bringing it and he’s coming with those shoulder pads, he can make people make a business decision.”
