Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera has a interesting nickname, “Riverboat Ron.” He is done fighting it and has decided to embrace the nickname even though River said Rivera did say that he was more fond of “Calculated Risk-Taker Ron” or “Analytical Ron.”

The Riverboat Ron nickname came from his gambling with attempting to get first downs on fourth down. Rivera is 9-for-11 on fourth-down conversions this year.

According to The Charlotte Observer, Rivera’s attorned filed paperwork last month to trademark the nickname. They’re trying to acquire it under the trademark owner Coach Rivera LLC.

“We’re trying to figure it out and it’s out there and people have kind of jumped onto it so I figured what the heck,” Rivera said of giving in to Riverboat Ron. “If it’s going to be out there then let’s see if we can do something in the community with it.”

“We’ll figure something out,” he added. “They’re all worthwhile causes and we really want to see if we can help out in the community.”

Rivera and his wife are looking to use the name to make money for charities.
