The Denver Broncos may have put up 51 points on the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon but it came at a price. The Broncos lost slot receiver Wes Welker in the first half when Welker took a shot to the head while coming across the middle of the field for a catch. Welker missed the rest of the game and was officially diagnosed with a concussion.
Conversations now shift from Welker missing the rest of Denver’s game against the Titans to whether Welker can play against the San Diego Chargers this week. According to ESPN, Welker will undergo further tests on Monday to evaluate his status but it’s looking like the receiver will be highly doubtful for next week’s game.
The complication in Welker’s status for next week is that he only has until Thursday to rest up as the Broncos and Chargers play on NFL Network in four days.
Another problem is that this is the second concussion in four weeks that Welker has suffered as he sustained one the first time the Broncos and Chiefs played each other. Welker had a whole week to rest for that game as it was a Sunday night game, but with the quick turnaround we may see Welker sit this one out.
More will be known on Monday but this is a situation that should be monitored closely.
