It took a while for things to get going in the very snowy game between the Detroit Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles. Once things got going, they really got going.

According to NFL.com, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy broke the team’s single game rushing record with 217 yards in eight inches of snow. An incredible feat considering the amount of snow on the ground.

“It was insane,” Philadelphia Eagles tight end Brent Celek said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. “When you would stop, you wouldn’t be touching the grass. The fact that (McCoy) was doing that, it’s insane.”

One of the Eagles lineman was more pragmatic and said it was all about getting their footing and play calling down.

“I think we all were learning to get our footing in the snow,” guard Evan Mathis said. “We started calling more downhill plays, inside zone runs that allowed the offensive line to keep their base, keep a downhill mentality. Same with the backs, allowing them to hit it. Then Shady was able to get to the second level and do his shifty stuff and make people miss.”

McCoy averaged 7.5 yards a carry in the game and scored two touchdowns. One touchdown was a 40-yard run while the other was a 57-yard score.
