The Houston Texans parted ways with head coach Gary Kubiak after a disappointing season. Texans owner Bob McNair has said that there next head coach would have head coaching experience.

“We would like someone who has had head coaching experience, but has also had NFL experience,” McNair said. “It’s a combination of those two things would be the ideal situation and there are people who meet those conditions.”

Their defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, who has filled in for Kubiak during his health scare and since his dismissal, has said that he wants the job.

“I can go into all of the stats and all of that stuff. Nobody wants to hear those,” Phillips said Monday, via the Houston Chronicle. “But if you look at the record, I think I have a lot to offer as a head coach. That’s for somebody else to decide.”

Phillips does have an impressive resume as a head coach in the NFL. He was 82-63 as a head coach, most recently with the Dallas Cowboys.
