Chicago Blackhawks vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Winter Classic sells out in 24 hours
By Josh Hill
It’s been a frigid winter so far across America but frigid apparently isn’t a word in hockey fan’s vocabulary. Proof of this was seen in the fact that the Winter Classic (or Stadium Classic, whichever you prefer) between the Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins sold out in less than 24 hours. This means that hockey fans flocked to buy tickets to watch a game in what could be subzero temperatures.
It’s not the only outdoor game this season but it’s a game that Blackhawks fans have been looking forward to for some time. Despite playing in two different conferences, the Blackhawks and Penguins are two teams that just don’t get a long and it could be a game that’s an early Stanley Cup preview. We actually almost saw a Chicago-Pittsburgh Stanley Cup last year had the Eastern Conference’s best team not ran into the brick wall that was Tuukka Rask and the Boston Bruins.
The game between the Blackhawks and Penguins will be played outside at Soldier Field where the Chicago Bears of the NFL play. It’s not the first outdoor hockey game the Blackhawks have played recently, but as the team continues to be one of the league’s best, the tradition of playing outdoors is booming one fans look forward to no matter the weather.
