The Cleveland Browns had a nice little run this season where they looked like a franchise that was respectable. That all of course came crashing back to earth but we saw what this team can be like if a capable and competent quarterback is under center. That’s the search the Browns will be on this offseason as they hunt for a franchise quarterback to anchor their team.

According to Brown beat writer Tony Grossi, that franchise quarterback will not be Jay Cutler. Grossi was asked if he thought the Browns would target Cutler in free agency but replied that the Browns are going to just draft someone instead.

The Browns failure to close out games this season is resulting in a respectable draft pick, something they’ll be using on a quarterback like Teddy Bridgewater, Johnny Manziel or Derek Carr. Cleveland may still look to bring in one of the veteran quarterback who will be out there have alongside their rookie, but it won’t be someone like Cutler who is still a franchise quarterback.

Imagine a situation where Manziel is learning to play football and be a man from someone like Micheal Vick. That’s more realistic that Cutler coming to town and it makes a lot more sense.
