Baltimore Ravens rookie safety Matt Elam made news earlier in the week when he called Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson old. It was surprising considering he has a game with over 300 yards receiving this year, and last year he set the record for receiving yards in a season.

“He’s pretty old, so I don’t know how physical he’ll be,” Elam told the Associated Press. “He’s a big guy, but he’s older.”

Johnson heard the talk and fired a shot back at Elam.

“I’m getting old,” Johnson said with a laugh in a conference call Thursday with Baltimore reporters, via ESPN. “It’s all good. I’ll show him what that old man’s strength about, though.”

“He can talk all he wants. He plays back. I don’t see him every play unless I run past him,” Johnson said, via Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun.

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has also responded to Elam’s comments.

“You just kind of look at him and say, ‘Dude, what are you thinking? It’s Calvin Johnson,'” quarterback Joe Flacco said Thursday on a conference call with Detroit reporters.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh had a different theory saying  “everybody’s old to Matt Elam.”
