Nick Saban signs multi-year extension with Alabama

UPDATE: Alabama has confirmed that they reached an agreement with Saban, so his legend will continue to grow in Tuscaloosa.

Amid all of the reports that Nick Saban would potentially leave the University of Alabama to take over the Texas Longhorns head coaching job, there has been plenty of speculation. With the recent news that the Texas AD has left the door open for a potential Mack Brown return, the time was right for Alabama to jump in and finish off the contract extension that they had been seeking with Saban.

Apparently, it has worked and Saban has agreed to a multi-year contract extension to remain with the Crimson Tide.

From ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit:

Of course, this is just another report to add to the saga, so approach with caution. Remember, Herbstreit has been wrong with his reports before: see Les Miles to Michigan.

However, Cecil Hurt is also reporting the news, with a report that holds a lot more weight.

It appeared all along that Saban and his agent were using the Texas rumors to create leverage that would earn him a pay raise and this would certainly seems to back up that claim.

Saban and his wife have consistently said that he would not be leaving Alabama, while star quarterback A.J. McCarron said yesterday that Saban told him he was not going to leave. Many doubted Saban’s word, but it looks like he was telling the truth all along.

Buh, buh, buh, I thought your other “sources” with legs said he was going to Texas? I hope you all learned a lesson.

Fansided is losing any credibility they had trying to push this story. I don’t know why people use them as a source anymore. Josh Sanchez, do everyone a favor and become a janitor.

Love the way this clown dances around the fact that he was totally wrong.

Your website has been discredited and exposed as a nothing more than a POS gossip column. Nice job boys. /sarc

Give Josh a break, bams. He’s doing you guys a favor. Still haven’t seen anyone confirming he SIGNED, only “agreed to”. Hold your enthusiastic thumbing your nose at everybody until the Texas job is actually open, on Jan 2, & let’s just see if the announcement of this agreement results in him actually SIGNING, or if this announcement of a (planned) signature is just designed to calm recruits watching closely for a resolution b4 signing themselves (much more likely), as well as calming the Harvey Updykes from making Saban’s decision easier by throwing a brick thru his window Bill Curry style (also likely). It IS recruiting season, 2 recruits left bama for Auburn & a 3rd changed his commitment to USC in the last week so of COURSE there was an announcement b4 things get out of hand. Anyway I challenge any bam to present 1 article that says he actually has SIGNED! Until then, UA officials will sweat every day that goes by until Nick’s PEN ACTUALLY HITS THE PAPER. My guess is Nick will still be “agreeing” but still no signature as of Jan 2nd when UT actually has an opening. And hoping he doesn’t lose more recruits in the meantime. Meanwhile the spin cycle will continue to pump sunshine for the sake of the bama prospective recruits.
