The Chicago Bears let the media know that they had a special announcement to make, which left some fans on Twitter scratching their heads.
An announcement to make before the final week of the regular season? I figured it would have to do with someone being re-signed and that’s exactly what it was.
According to Adam Oestmann on Twitter, the Chicago Bears and kicker Robbie Gould have agree’d to a four year contract extension which keeps him in Chicago through 2017.

Gould has been a huge part of this Chicago Bears team ever since he arrived in 2005. He’s made some clutch kicks for this team throughout the years and deserved a contract extension after becoming one of the teams all-time scorer’s.
This was an excellent decision made by Phil Emery and the Chicago Bears. Gould spoke to the media, talking about how he someday hopes to retire a Chicago Bear.
Here are some tweets that have been provided by Adam Oestmann.
Emery: “[Robbie] leads our team in the community. I can’t say enough about him as a person—excellence on and off the field.”

Gould: “I was outspoken at the beginning of training camp, I think everyone knows that. I thought it was important that I remain a Bear.”

Gould: “This is a special day, and I want to thank [the Bears] for the opportunity. Hopefully someday I’ll retire a Bear.”

Gould: “We reached a deal that makes a lot of sense for us collectively. I think we can do something down the road that’s very special.”

Robbie: "If the deal that I struck leaves a little extra money to keep some other guys around, I'm all for it."
