On Thursday night in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, we were all treated one last time to the outstanding talents of Pittsburgh Panthers true freshman wide receiver Tyler Boyd in the team’s 30-27 win over the Bowling Green Falcons.

In the win, Boyd totaled 173 yards on eight catches. He also showed off his extreme versatility once again when he returned a Bowling Green punt 54 yards to the house in the second quarter.

Before the season, head coach Paul Chryst made a decision to place the freshman on the field right off the bat, and that decision paid huge dividends. In 2013, Boyd amassed 1,174 yards on 85 catches with seven touchdowns.

The future is definitely bright for this young man and the two years that he still has left to play in the Steel City. He’s going to give everyone in the ACC headaches for those years to comes.

It has indeed been one of the more impressive freshman seasons in quite some time, and for his efforts, he was recognized on Friday by the greatest receiver in Pitt history, Arizona Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald.

Larry Fitz might be right. If Boyd is only going to get better, a lot of records are going to fall in the near future.
