Jeff Garcia doesn’t think Kaepernick is close to Pro Bowl level?

San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Colin Kaepernick didn’t make the Pro Bowl this season.  The last 49ers’ quarterback to earn that honor came in 2002 when Jeff Garcia was behind center.

It would appear that Garcia thinks his status as the last 49ers’ signal caller to play in the NFL’s version of the All Star game will remain intact for quite some time.

In an exchange on Twitter, Garcia seems to call out the current 49ers’ QB.  While it’s impossible to know the meaning behind his tweet or his intentions at this point, it is certainly clear that Garcia doesn’t think Kaepernick is quite at that level, yet.

It all started with a tweet from the Bay Area News Group 49ers’ beat writer Cam Inman.

To which Jeff Garcia replied rather cryptically, or directly depending on how you look at it.

Take it for what you will, but it appears Garcia is implying Kaepernick doesn’t have the ability – either currently or ever – to make it to Honolulu.  It also appears fair, for now, especially considering the slow start Kaepernick had to this season.

It should also be noted that Garcia has praised Kaepernick in the past.  In an interview with 95.7 The Game after the 49ers’ playoff win over Green Bay last season, Garcia spoke about Kaepernick’s abilities, via ThePressDemocrat.com.

"“He looked outstanding. He did a great job. The kid is extremely athletic, but he just has that confidence, that swagger about him. I think that’s a major reason why Harbaugh went with Kaepernick when he did, because he saw that personality to him. The kid just really believes in his abilities. He has tremendous abilities. The players believe in him. They’ve rallied around him. And he went out there and he made plays.”"

Kaepernick has thrown for 2887 yards with 19 touchdowns and 8 interceptions with an additional 500 yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground this season while leading the 49ers’ to their 3rd straight playoff appearance.  He sits just 37 yards back of Hall of Famer Steve Young’s franchise record for rushing yards by a quarterback in a single season.

Garcia made the Pro Bowl four times in his career and led the 49ers to the playoffs in 2001 and 2002.

What say you 49ers’ fans? Is Jeff Garcia correct? Or is Kaepernick close, or at a Pro Bowl level now?

Update:  In a later tweet, Garcia explained his thinking.

The question remains, do you think he is correct?  It’s that time of year and an interesting debate to have.
