The Kansas City Chiefs have very little to play for other than pride in their final regular season game of the season this afternoon so it should come as no surprise that head coach Andy Reid is giving his biggest stars the afternoon off. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are not even going to activate starters like Alex Smith, Dontari Poe, Jamaal Charles and others.

Kansas City is locked into the AFC playoffs and won’t be hosting a home game since they’re a wild card team. With the Denver Broncos winning the division last week, the Chiefs can in no way earn a home game in the first round of the AFC playoffs and locked into the fifth seed.

This is why it’s a smart decision to rest the Chiefs starters and that’s exactly why Reid is doing it. This week can be considered the Chiefs first round bye as the starters are resting and all eyes are pretty much beyond this week’s game and to next week’s Wild Card round in the AFC.
