The St. Louis Rams, surely one of the most unpredictable teams in recent memory, seem to have never quite figured out how to fit rookie wide receiver/return man Tavon Austin into what they are doing.

As the team has swapped back and forth between blowing teams out and getting blown out, Austin’s contributions have been just as unsteady. When the team housed the Indianapolis Colts in week 10, he pitched in two spectacular long TDs. He then chipped in a 65 yard TD in a 42-21 win over the Chicago Bears in week 12.

When it comes to this weird team and their ability to overwhelm worthy opponents, Austin is a factor. Unfortunately for the Rams and for any team that is hoping for a slip-up by the Seattle Seahawks this week (looking at you, San Francisco), it looks like Austin will be out again in week 17.

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com has the report this morning:

Sidelined by an ankle injury, Austin has been out of the lineup since week 14 when he had only one catch against the Arizona Cardinals. The Rams will probably need a big play or two to pull off the upset against Seattle, something made just a little harder because they will be without their first round pick.
