The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired not only their head coach this morning but also canned their general manager which has a lot of people swarming to the idea that former Buccaneers position coach Lovie Smith could return to Tampa Bay as the next head coach of the team.

One guy that endorses this report that Smith is the favorite for the Bucs job is Smith’s former boss Tony Dungy. After hearing the news this morning, Dungy tweeted out his endorsement of the idea to sort of get the band back together in Tampa and reunite Smith with general manager Rich McKay and other members of the late 90s and early 2000s Buccaneers team.

It’s a move that a lot of Bucs fans are hoping will happen as the sour taste of the Greg Schiano era needs to be rinsed out of everyone’ s mouth as soon as humanly possible. Smith is the anti-Schiano in both his demeanor and his track record in the NFL. Smith apparently already has an offensive coordinator picked out no matter where he lands, but Dungy is among those hoping that the final destination for Smith is in Tampa Bay.
