Usually when a head coach of a struggling offensive minded team gets fired, his offensive coordinator also gets fired. It’s rare that the head coach and offensive coordinator are related but that’s the case in Washington as the Redskins have fired not only Mike Shanahan but his son and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan as well.
just spoke to Kyle Shanahan, he has been informed his services are no longer needed. Fired #redskinstalk

Kyle Shanahan tells me he's not looking for head coaching job soon after going through this. Will look for OC openings #RedskinsTalk

It was a rough season for both Shanahan’s but it was particularly rough for the younger Shanahan as Kyle was pitted against his father on more than one occasion with everything coming to a head when Robert Griffin III was benched. Kyle Shanahan took a position against his father, but despite remaining loyal to the team, Kyle Shanahan has still been fired by Washington.
This means that not only will Robert Griffin III get to hand pick his next head coach, but he’ll also be able to choose his offensive coordinator as well, assuming he doesn’t want to just take on the role himself.
