On Tuesday afternoon, multiple sources suggested the Detroit Lions were interested in Tom Cable for their head coaching vacancy.

It was a bit odd for Cable’s name to surface considering he wasn’t much of a candidate for any current opening and Cable had a tumultuous run as the Oakland Raiders head coach a few seasons back which allegedly included violence towards a fellow coach.

Regardless, interest seemed legit.

However, according to Tim Twentyman, the Detroit Lions do not have an interest in Cable:

"I’ve been told by a source the Lions do not have interest in Seattle’s Tom Cable as a head coaching candidate."

Cable is currently under contract with the Seattle Seahawks and is thriving as their line coach.

With his head coaching ability in question, the Lions’ lack of interest makes sense. Granted, many teams would certainly like to employ him in a capacity much like the Seahawks have done, but there’s little reason for Cable to leave one of the premier teams in the league for a similar position elsewhere.
