The Brooklyn Nets are a mess of a professional franchise at the moment and just about everything they do gets an eye roll from someone, somewhere. The latest Nets debacle involved the entire team leaving the court before the final official buzzer in the team’s 113-92 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
It’s hard to totally point fingers at the Nets here, as the referees decided to be sticklers at the last possible moment and force the teams to play out a meaningless 0.2 seconds on the game clock. There was nothing that could have been accomplished other than a giant waste of time to play out the tenths of a second left, but the referees were going to be damned if the game were to end with time on the clock.
So this speaks both to the officiating crew over officiating but also the Nets complete lack of caring about their appearance at the moment. A strong team, even one losing like the Nets are, does not just mope off the court and sulk back to the locker room the instant a game is over.
Even Greg Popovich had to snicker at the over officiating but it’s the Brooklyn Nets who are getting snickered at by everyone else as they just Randy Moss-ed their way to another embarrassing moment in this debacle of a season.
