The Boston Celtics were very close to pulling the trigger on a trade that would have landed them Houston Rockets center Omer Asik back in December, but the trade fell through and the Celtics held onto all trade chips involved. But the trade talks with Houston about Asik were preceded by rumors that the Miami Heat could come knocking and asking about swapping assets for Jordan Crawford.

No such deal has been offered or discussed, but Crawford is letting it be known that he wants to remain with the Celtics both this season and next season after becoming a restricted free agent over the summer.

Per USA Today’s Sean Highkin:

"“It’s an NBA thing,” Crawford said. “You’re supposed to think about being a free agent. It’s going to happen, so there’s nothing I can do to deny it. I definitely want to be here. But it’s the NBA. You never know what’s going to happen.”"

Without Rajon Rondo in the lineup, Crawford has excelled and is only further proving his worth come free agency over the summer. But he’s already starting to talk potential suitors down by proclaiming his love for Boston and for Brad Stevens’ system, which speaks both highly of Stevens job so far and of Crawford’s love for the Celtics.

A lot can happen between now and a potential return to Boston for Crawford, but he’s already got eyes set on coming back which already puts the Celtics in the lead to land him in the summer.
