Due to a back injury suffered against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas won’t be on the field when his team takes on the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.

The absence of Thomas is big for the Saints. Thomas led New Orleans with 549 rushing yards during the regular season, and he also caught 77 passes for 513 yards. He accounted for five touchdowns in 2013: two on the ground and three on receptions.

With Thomas out, the Saints fans can expect to see more of Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson, and Darren Sproles. Head coach Sean Payron spoke about the depth the Saints have at running back:

"We’ve kept five this year, which is unusual. We felt those five guys were really important to what we do in our roster. Each one of those guys has a different skill set. The versatility is important (ESPN)."
