In the third quarter of Saturday’s NFC Wild Card match up between the Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints, the New Orleans defensive backfield suffered a potentially devastating loss after starting cornerback Keenan Lewis went down with what appeared to be a head injury after delivering a big hit to Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant.

Avant was flaring out into the flat and going for a catch, when Lewis came charging forward to deliver the big hit.

Lewis stayed on the turf grabbing his helmet after making contact and was tended to by the Saints training staff. Here is a GIF of the play, via Zombie Prophet:

There is no immediate word on the injury that Lewis suffered or whether or not he can return, but if he is being evaluated for concussion like symptoms then it is highly unlikely that he will be able to get back on the field.

If that is the case, the Eagles will have a big mismatch that they will be able to exploit on the outside in the final quarter of the game.
