We told you that there was a deal in place that involved the Cetlics’ Courtney Lee and the Grizzlies’ Jerryd Bayless, but it was just preliminary. Now, according to Sam Amick of USA Today, the deal has been completed, and will finalize on Monday:

"The Memphis Grizzlies are expected to acquire shooting guard Courtney Lee from the Boston Celtics in exchange for guard Jerryd Bayless, a person with knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports. There may ultimately be draft picks involved in the deal, but it is likely to be completed on Monday. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been finalized."

This makes sens for both teams. The Grizzlies’ offense has struggled this season, and Lee could help them space the floor. He is shooting over 44 percent from beyond the arc, compared to just over 28 percent from Bayless. Lee is also a decent defender, and he should fit nicely next to Mike Conley. He also has the ability to run the offense in small stretches.

For the Celtics, they are getting an expiring contract, and a guy who is willing to play a lot of minutes. They are all about the future, so this deal makes sense for them. Bayless will also get the opportunity to showcase his talents, and could possibly earn himself a contract next summer if he plays well. Amick reports that the Grizzlies are using the remainder of the trade exception they got in the Rudy Gay deal last season.
