The Houston Texans have the top pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, so most assume they will pick a quarterback with that pick.  Gil Brandt throws out a scenario where they go a different direction.  The Texans trade for Ryan Mallett, backup quarterback for the New England Patriots and go a different direction in the draft.

New Texans head coach Bill O’Brien has worked with Mallett during his time with the Patriots.  The Texans have said they are open to listening to offers for the #1 pick in the draft, presumably hoping a team like the Cleveland Browns or Tampa Bay Buccaneers would give up a fortune to move up and pick a quarterback.  Connecting all of those dots, the Texans would trade for Mallett, trade down in the draft and address different issues, potentially drafting someone like Jadeveon Clowney from South Carolina to pair with J.J. Watt.  The Texans likely draft another quarterback somewhere later in the draft.

This seems like a pretty far fetched scenario, but stranger things have happened.
