We have yet another NBA trade that has gone down, or is in the final stages of doing so, but it’s not the one you’ve been waiting for. While the Cleveland Cavaliers are mulling three offers for Andrew Bynum, the Boston Celtics have managed to flip Courtney Lee to another team and acquire a nice addition to their roster.
Yesterday ESPN’s Marc Stein reported that the Celtics were in advanced talks with the Memphis Grizzlies to swap Lee for Jerryd Bayless and this morning comes a report that all the two sides need is a thumbs up from the NBA later this afternoon.
Sources told ESPN.com that the Celtics, after pursuing him in previous seasons as well, are on the verge of acquiring Bayless for shooting guard Courtney Lee. A trade call with the league office, sources said, has been scheduled for Monday.
Bayless isn’t s superstar addition for the Celtics but he’s a solid option that the team can use both in place of the rehabbing Rajon Rondo for the moment and as a scoring option beside him when Rondo returns. As for Lee, there was some surprise that the Celtics were able to move him, but they flipped him for an expiring contract as Boston will have to work out a deal with Bayless this summer to avoid having him be a half-season rental.
