Green Bay Packers cornerback Sam Shields suffered an injury early in this weekend’s Wild Card match up against the San Francisco 49ers with a knee injury an he was unable to return. There is still no official word about the extent of the injury, but we should know today after Shields undergoes an MRI.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is reporting that they learned from a league source that it is believed Shields could have an injury to his MCL.

If that proves to be true, the MRI today should reveal that.

Hopefully for Shields, the injury will not be serious and he will be able to avoid surgery. If not, he will be dealing with rehab whenever he hits the free agent market.

If teams are worried about Shields ability to recover, then he could be getting less money than he would hope to receive.
