It wasn’t long ago that Carl Nicks was one of the most impressive offensive guards in the NFL that earned him a big free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but now there is some concern about whether or not Nicks will ever be able to play football again.

Nicks was shut down this season because of a MRSA infection in his foot and it looks like that issue is still causing some problems.

According to Jason Cole of the National Football Post, Nicks is still suffering from pain in his foot and there is some real concern about whether or not he will be able to suit up for the team next season.

Obviously, missing two years with an infection would then put the remainder of his career in jeopardy.

Nicks signed a whopping five-year, $47.5 million deal back in 2012, but he has been able to play in just nine games with the team. With the guard scheduled to make $7 million in 2014, the Buccaneers will have to think long and hard about whether or not they will want to keep him on the roster.
