The Chicago Bears was thought to have themselves a situation on their hands when it came to the quarterback position. When Jay Cutler went down, veteran backup Josh McCown stepped up in a huge way.

Not only did the offense continue to put up points, but McCown helped keep this team in the hunt for the division title. Cutler missed a handful of games but that didn’t matter. Josh matched him nearly stat for stat and Bears fans were amazed by how well he was playing.

I can’t remember a backup that has played this well for the Bears in the history of the franchise. It’s almost as rare as two one thousand yard receivers going to the Pro Bowl in the same year for this team. Stuff like that just doesn’t happen, but maybe the tide has shifted?

Or however that saying goes, what matters is that things looked great this year offensively for the Bears. Defense? Not so much. I actually cringed when I typed out the word defense. I keep getting flashes of all those 100 yard rushers just bulldozing over defenders.

Anyways, ESPN Chicago is anticipating Josh McCown re-signing with the Chicago Bears. McCown has stated that he would like to return to the team to back up Cutler. Now that Cutler was offered that contract, McCown may not be offered starter money.
