New Orleans Saints eat Popeyes chicken for good luck against Seattle Seahawks

When the New Orleans Saints went on the road and beat a powerfully fast and offensively savvy Philadelphia Eagles team last week, the credit didn’t go to Drew Brees or a stout defense. Instead, the New Orleans based Popeyes Chicken took center stage after it was revealed the team dined on some battered and deep fried good luck charms beforehand.

In keeping with superstition, the Saints again dined on a meal of Popeyes yet again before departing for Seattle to take on the Seahawks Saturday afternoon.

This whole Popeyes chicken superstition is nothing exclusive to this postseason. Back in 2009, the Saints ate Popeyes chicken all throughout their playoff run and ended up winning the Super Bowl as a result. Nevermind the year of hard work, the intense preparation, Sean Payton’s onside kick or Brett Favre’s disgustingly awful interception in the NFC Championship game; it was the chicken and we all know it.

We’ll see how well the Popeyes pays off this time around, but so far the Saints are 1-0 in the postseason following an airport meal of Popeye’s chicken, so let’s not tarnish a record nor a superstition that so far has the Saints in the NFC Divisional Round preparing to take on the conference’s best and most ferocious team.
