It’s been a rough start to the new year for Chicago Bulls fans, as the trading of All-Star forward Luol Deng seemed to not only depress fans but anger the teammates he left behind. There had been rumblings before the trade that head coach Tom Thibodeau may leave the team to coach the New York Knicks next season and after the trade, those rumors flared up again.

Mitch Lawrence, who was spot on about the Deng trade rumors, mentioned that there could still be mutual interest between the Knicks and Thibodeau and even suggested that a deal may start to be worked on soon. Thibodeau responded to the rumors and called them what they are — stupid.

Thibodeau stated that he believes in the Bulls and is invested in building the team he’s with into a winner.

"“That stuff is ridiculous. First I was being traded. … I couldn’t care less about that stuff. I love the fighting spirit of this team. That’s all I’m thinking about.“"

Of course, this won’t kill rumors of Thibodeau leaving for New York as Knicks fans won’t let it die. But Thibodeau’s comments can be heard as a vote of confidence to Bulls fans that he isn’t thinking about going anywhere which means he’s very likely to remain in Chicago for the foreseeable future.
