It’s starting to feel like Delmon Young just won’t go away. It goes to show that if you can bring some pop from the right side of the plate, some team will give you a look.

Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Baltimore Orioles have agreed to a minor league deal with Young, something that was rumored earlier in the day:

Here’s a fun fact about Delmon Young. If you start Googling his name, here are your first suggestions:

delmon young stats…

delmon young throws bat…

delmon young anti-semitic…

delmon young racist…

Suffice it to say that Mr. Young has had some issues off the field.

On the field Young is a certified, card-carrying member of the “left-handed pitching destroyers” club. In his career he is a .303/.341/.471 hitter against lefties. That was not quite how things went for him in 2013, however, when he batted only .261 and hit only one of his 10 home runs against LHP. We should also at least mention that Young is all but incompetent in the field at this point in his career, making him exclusively a platoon, DH guy.

In the end this is nothing more than a depth signing that the Orioles are hoping will click during Spring Training. Even if Young does enough to break camp with the club, they will still need more help on offense if they want to matter in the AL East.
