The Cincinnati Bengals already lost one coordinator when offensive coordinator Jay Gruden took the head coaching job with the Washington Redskins and could be on the verge of losing defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer to the Minnesota Vikings.

Zimmer has been the Bengals defensive coordinator under Marvin Lewis since 2008 and has consistently produced one of the better units in the NFL during his time in the Queen City.

His work with the Bengals led to him receiving an interview for the Cleveland Browns head coaching position last season which ultimately went to Rob Chudzinski, but this could be the year Zimmer gets his first head coaching job. Zimmer has long been considered around the league as one of the top assistants and a future head coach.

Zimmer has been coaching in the NFL since 1991 and previously worked as the defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboys after beginning his coaching career in the college ranks in 1979 with the Missouri Tigers.

The Tennessee Titans interviewed Zimmer twice this offseason before hiring Ken Whisenhunt, but the sting of losing that job could be softened if the Vikings name him the head coach.
