After the Carolina Panthers were bumped out of the playoffs by the San Francisco 49ers this past weekend, Carolina wide receiver Steve Smith was asked if he had a rooting interest in the NFC Championship Game between the 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks.

His response? Not amused.

Per NFL.com:

"You really want me to thump you upside the head? That was the dumbest question, and that’s the second dumbest question you’ve asked. I only cheer for one team. Actually, two teams. My team and my kid’s team. Other than that I can give a bleep."

Okay, I’m not exactly good at what you may call “reading between the lines” — hell, I’m not even good at plain ol’ reading — but I’m going to go out on a limb and interpret Smith’s statement as indicating he doesn’t really care who wins the NFC Championship Game. Just a hunch.

Smith had four catches for 74 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
