The NFL Draft season is about to get in swing, which means we will begin to hear plenty of smokescreens from teams at the top of the draft that are attempting to lure a potential trade partner.

The Houston Texans are the team currently slated to hold the No. 1 pick, so it should come as no surprise that they are already praising one of the top prospects — South Carolina Gamecocks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

Houston is expected to draft a quarterback with the first pick, but that didn’t stop team owner Bob McNair from chiming in on Clowney and delivering some high praise.

“He is a remarkable player,” McNair said, via the team’s official website. “He’s one of these players that’s a once every 10 years kind of physical specimen. Mario Williams was that way. I think that Clowney is a better athlete than Mario, so that tells you what kind of player he can be.

“Like many of these fellas who have these great physical attributes, they didn’t have to work as hard in junior high school, high school and college to be a superlative athlete because they have this natural ability. He’s not a J.J. Watt. J.J. didn’t have that natural ability. He worked. He developed his. One of the things I said to J.J. is ‘I don’t know what’ll happen but if we get Clowney, we want you to instill in him the same kind of work habits that you have.’ He said ‘If he’s in the same room as me, he’ll have them.”

The Texans have already expressed their willingness to trade the top pick, so they could be looking to catch the attention of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or Atlanta Falcons — two teams that are expected to have interest in Clowney.

By trading down, Houston would be able to still grab one of the top signal-callers in the draft while adding to their arsenal of picks.

Whether or not someone bites and opens trade talks with the Texans remains to be seen, but don’t expect this to be the last we hear about how much the Texans are in love with Clowney’s talents.
