The New York Jets have not committed to Geno Smith as the starting quarterback in 2014, and it appears that he will once again be challenged by the job by Matt Simms. There was no doubt that Simms was going to remain with the Jets, because he was set to become an exclusive rights free agent in March.

Instead of waiting until the offseason, the Jets went ahead and re-signed Simms before the free agent frenzy began.

According to the New York Post, the Jets signed Simms to a one-year, $495,000 deal.

Mark Sanchez is expected to be released in the offseason, which will leave Simms as the primary back up quarterback. However, the team is still expected to go out and add another signal-caller before the start of next season.
