Minnesota Vikings hire Mike Zimmer as their head coach
By Peter Smith
The Minnesota Vikings have made it official and hired Mike Zimmer to be their head coach. The former Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator has been long expected to get a head coaching job, but it has finally happened for him in the twin cities. The Vikings go from one defensive guy to another in Zimmer, while they are still looking for a quarterback to lead that offense.
This also means that despite the fact that Bengals have not won a playoff game, they lose both coordinators as Jay Gruden is the head coach of the Washington Redskins.
The Vikings still have Adrian Peterson, have some young, talented weapons like Cordarelle Patterson and a strong offensive line, so if they can get a good quarterback and Zimmer can make a positive impact on the defense like he did in Cincinnati, they can compete quickly. Rick Spielman, the general manager has taken much of the blame for the lack of a quarterback and this could be his last chance to find the right guy.
