Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy has been a key player for the team’s defense over the past two seasons. With 26 sacks to his credit and a strong performance against the run, Hardy has proven to be a valuable asset for the team.

However, Hardy is set to become a free agent in March, which means the team will have a decision to make.

Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman recently hinted that the team could leave Hardy walk in the offseason because of their tight salary cap situation, but Hardy may have a different idea.

While many players are not open to the idea of having their team use the franchise tag to lock them up for one year, Hardy is of a different breed.

As far as Hardy is concerned, it would be a “big honor” if the team decided to use the tag on him.

The only question is whether or not the Panthers would be able to find room to fit Hardy under the cap with the salary cap figure that the franchise tag would demand.
