When you’re a professional athlete, you’re almost expected to give back to the community. Because you know, helping people out is something that everybody should be doing. But professional athletes do the most they can in their area and wherever they grew up.

The National Football League honors one player each year who do this all year round. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as you’re giving back, your actions will not go unnoticed by the league. The award that three men are hoping to be honored with is named after one of the greatest running backs to ever put on a uniform.

I’m talking about Chicago Bears great Walter Payton. I never had the opportunity to watch Sweetness play, so thank god for YouTube. All I have are stories from those who were alive during his playing days. I actually hear a lot of them coming from my Father, one of the biggest Bears fans I know.

The finalists for this award were announced at halftime. The finalists include Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely, Chicago Bears corner-back Charles Tillman and Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis.

The winner will receive the award sometime during Super Bowl Sunday. Congratulations and salute to the three finalists.
