We have continuously seen people weighing in on the Washington Redskins nickname and sharing their thoughts on whether or not they believe the name should be changed. To make a statement, some outlets have removed the “Redskins” nickname from any articles and reports and it turns out a media giant was among those considering the move.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, ESPN considered banning the nickname from their reports on the team. They ultimately decided against it.

If ESPN would have made the move, they likely would have referred to the Redskins as the “Washington Football Team” or “Washington Football Franchise” moving forward.

While it is certainly a sensitive issue, ESPN’s stance on banning the nickname would have caused a big stink and taken the focus off of their actual reporting. Whether or not that is what actually fueled their decision not to make a change is not known, but it likely played a big part.
