With the NBA trade deadline approaching in around a month, teams that are fighting for playoff positioning are going to have to decide whether or not they want to trade for the missing piece of their championship puzzle or if they want to continue to search for it elsewhere.
One of those teams on the brink is the Houston Rockets, as they appear unwilling to make a major trade but could be buyers at the deadline regardless. They have assets they could move, like Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin but the problem is finding a trade that works for the Rockets without selling low on either of those players.
ESPN.com’s Tom Haberstroh threw out some names in an insider’s only piece that the Rockets could target and a few of them make some sense. Two names mentioned that stick out are C.J. Miles from Cleveland and Thabo Sefolosha from Oklahoma City.
Of the two, Miles makes the most sense, since the Cavaliers might actually trade with the Rockets where as the Thunder may avoid helping a conference rival, even if it lands them a big man like Asik. Miles isn’t a defensive threat, but he’s improved and would also help the Rockets three-point shooting, as he’s hitting around 40 percent from deep in Cleveland.
A trade may not happen, but regardless of the names being mentioned, and you can read Haberstroh’s piece for more of them, it’s clear the Rockets may have to look at a trade if they want to get one final push over the top.
