The New York Jets already have very few offensive weapons to help out quarterback Geno Smith, and it looks like they will be down at least one more once the offseason kicks off. According to ESPN New York, the Jets are expected to release wide receiver Santonio Holmes.

Holmes is due a $1 million roster bonus on March 13, so the Jets will likely part ways with their veteran wide receiver before that time comes.

By releasing Holmes, the Jets would save $8.25 million against the salary cap.

New York is expected to make plenty of moves in the offseason to provide salary cap relief and they can do that by release Holmes, quarterback Mark Sanchez and cornerback Antonio Cromartie. By releasing all three, the Jets would have $40 million in cap space. That is more than enough to be major players on the open market.
