Just a few days ago, we brought you word that the best running back on the face of planet Earth, Adrian Peterson, could have surgery this off-season. Now, at least one report points toward that becoming the reality in the very near future.

ESPN’s Josina Anderson is reporting that Peterson needs groin surgery in the near future, but the bigger bombshell is that he has reportedly decided to undergo the procedure. All signs point to Peterson being ready for 2014 training camp, regardless of whether he chooses to surgically address the issue, but this certainly doesn’t provide a lot of assurance for Vikings faithful who were worried about their best player’s status.

After one of the seasons in NFL history in 2012, Peterson was banged-up in a variety of ways during 2013, and it showed at times. Still, “AP” rushed for nearly 1,300 yards in just 14 games, and even an 80% version of Peterson is likely a top-5 running back in a league starved for all-World talent at the position. If he’s able to suit up at full-strength when training camp rolls around (as the conventional thinking suggests), the surgery will become an afterthought in a hurry, but until then, Minnesota’s guard should be up on the situation.
