Jairus Byrd won’t comment on Mike Pettine’ departure
By Mike Dyce
The Buffalo Bills and safety Jairus Byrd had a rough summer, when Bills gave Byrd the franchise tag and there was the ensuing contract struggle. He is a pending free agent again this spring, and his contract status is up in the air and his defensive coordinator, Mike Pettine, has left for the Cleveland Browns head coaching job.
A reporter tried to ask Byrd about his feelings regarding Pettine’s departure, but Byrd wasn’t taking the bait.
From Tim Graham of the Buffalo News:
Graham: “What was your gut reaction to hearing Pettine had gotten the Browns job?”
Byrd: “I’d really rather not answer that.”
Graham: “You’re entering your sixth season, and the Bills will have their fifth defensive coordinator. What are your thoughts on that?”
Byrd [laughing]: “Same as the last one. I won’t answer that one.”
Graham: “How will Pettine’s departure impact the likelihood you’ll return to the Bills?”
Byrd [laughing harder]: “You’re oh for three.”
