The NBA trade deadline is approaching rapidly, which means that teams are starting to strategize what they’ll do when the phone starts ringing with offers. For some teams the strategy is to do nothing at all, for others the strategy is dictated by what their star player wants.

For the New York Knicks, everything revolves around Carmelo Anthony and his future with the team. There are doubts that he’ll re-sign with the team this summer which has led to endless trade discussions among fans who want the Knicks to get something in return rather than have Melo walk and leave New York with nothing.

Knicks head coach Mike Woodson, who earlier this month was among those saying he thought Anthony would re-sign in New York, is saying he doesn’t think that his star forward will request a trade before the deadline.

Per Marc Berman of the New York Post:

"“Melo I think is on board. I know he’s on board…He’s going to be there to the bitter end if it’s a bitter end. But right now he’s going to be there. I trust he’s going to stay there. we got to make sure everybody else.”"

Rather than trade Melo, there’s the notion that the Knicks may be buyers at the deadline to try and gather pieces that will encourage their star to stay.

Either way, there seems to be every growing drama surrounding the Carmelo Anthony situation in New York and the approaching trade deadline is only making people more anxious about what the future holds.
