The St. Louis Rams appear to be a team on the verge of breaking through as a playoff contender next season, but they could be making some moves over the next few weeks to free up cap space and shake up their roster.

One player who is considered a candidate to be released is cornerback Cortland Finnegan, who was a big free agent acquisition just a couple of years ago.

By cutting Finnegan, the Rams would save $4 million in cap space.

ESPN Rams reporter Nick Wagoner also believes that center Scott Wells and right guard Harvey Dahl could also be released in the offseason. By releasing Finnegan, Wells and Dahl, the Rams would clear $13-15 million.

The team could make up for the loss of Finnegan in the defensive backfield with their promising young stars, but releasing Wells and Dahl would make the entire Rams starting offensive line a big question mark heading into next season. It will be interesting to see how things play out in St. Louis throughout the next month.
