UFC on FOX 10 results: Stipe Miocic defeats Gabriel Gonzaga by Unanimous Decision

The co-main event of UFC on FOX 10 is a Heavyweight battle between long time UFC veteran, Gabriel Gonzaga, taking on the rising prospect, Stipe Miocic. With the Heavyweight division being among the UFC’s thinnest, every fight has monumental consequences for each fighter.

Gabriel Gonzaga is on a tremendous two fight KO streak inside the Octagon. At UFC 162, Gonzaga knocked out Dave Herman in just 17 seconds. He followed that up with a 1:30 KO of Shawn Jordan at UFC 166. Gonzaga is currently tied with Frank Mir for the most finishes at Heavyweight in UFC history with 11. Tonight, he will look for his 12th finish, while continuing his career resurgence against Stipe Miocic.

Miocic is 10-1 in his career, with his only loss coming at the hands of Stefan Struve back in 2012. He had a great rebound performance against Roy Nelson at UFC 161, where he outstruck Roy and won a unanimous decision. Before his loss to Struve, Miocic had a lot of hype behind him and with a statement win over Gonzaga, expect that hype train to be fully back on track.

Round 1: They touch gloves to start. Left hook from Stipe. Gonzaga with a big leg kick. Leg kick from Stipe. Overhand right lands for Gonzaga. Jab from Stipe. Both men exchange leg kicks. Stipe with a jab, but Gonzaga answers right back. Overhand right from Gonzaga. Leg kick from Gonzaga turns Stipe. Stipe is gauging the distance by sticking out the jab. Another overhand right from Gonzaga. 1-2 from Stipe. Inside leg kick from both men. Gonzaga grabs onto Stipe, but he breaks out Gonzaga’s grasp. Straight left from Stipe. Step-in jab from Stipe. Gonzaga with a straight right. Big overhand right lands for Gonzaga as Stipe throws a leg kick. Left high kick from Gonzaga. Stipe with a hard leg kick. Stipe with a jab. Gonzaga answers with a jab of his own. Stipe has definitely slowed down from the leg kicks of Gonzaga. Gonzaga with a big takedown, but Stipe right back to his feet. Overhand right again from Gonzaga. Jabs from Stipe. Inside leg kick from Gonzaga. Close round, but I give it 10-9 Gonzaga for his leg kicks and overhand rights.

Round 2: Another leg kick lands for Gonzaga. Straight right lands for Stipe. Stipe with an inside leg kick, but Gonzaga answers. Gonzaga’s takedown attempt is stuffed and Gonzaga throws a head kick. Jabs from both men. Left hook from Gonzaga. 1-2 from Stipe, but Gonzaga is defending well. Gonzaga’s leg kick is checked. Left hook from Stipe. Jab from Stipe and he is opening up on the feet. 1-2 and an uppercut flowing from Stipe. Head kick from Gonzaga. Gonzaga attempts a takedown, but is stuffed. 1-2 lands for Stipe. Jabs from Stipe are landing. Standing elbow from Stipe, and Gonzaga has slowed down significantly. Overhand right lands for Gonzaga. Stipe stuffs another takedown. Stipe with a hard body kick and stuffs another Gonzaga takedown attempt. Gonzaga is completely gassed, but Stipe is not pouring it on. Hard uppercut from Stipe. 10-9 for Stipe dominating the stand up and stuffing every takedown.

Round 3: Two jabs from Stipe. Hard leg kick from Gonzaga followed by a straight right. Body shot from Stipe. Overhand right from Gonzaga. Gonzaga is missing big on his shots. Stipe is landing at will, but Gonzaga is blocking. Jab from Stipe. Gonzaga attempts a takedown, but is stuffed again. Neither man is showing any urgency, and they have slowed down significantly. Body shot from Gonzaga. Two jabs from Gonzaga, answered by Stipe. Superman punch misses for Gonzaga, and Stipe takes him down. Stipe standing over Gonzaga as he lies on his back. Stipe landing some hammerfists as Gonzaga attempts to get to his feet. Gonzaga slips again, and Stipe is content to stand over him and punch. Stipe picking his ground and pound and nailing Gonzaga. Stipe is in half guard and is pounding Gonzaga from top. Gonzaga is throwing strikes from the bottom, but he is getting hit with hard shots. Gonzaga gets to his feet and lands two overhand rights, but the fight ends. 10-9 Stipe Miocic, but that was not a very good fight.
