It’s been a while since we’ve seen Omer Asik on the basketball court for the Houston Rockets. Since December 2, 2013, to be exact. Coincidentally, it was about that time that the Rockets were trying to part ways with Asik by means of a trade. However, nothing really sprouted from that, and Asik has suffered as a result.

Now it seems like the Rockets will stick with Asik for at least the foreseeable future. Just ask GM Daryl Morey, who spoke with season ticket holders about the backup big man.

"“We pushed to trade Omer in December. We felt we had to make a fair and aggressive effort to do that. Obviously, he’d prefer to be a starter,” he said. “At this point, Omer is very likely going to be here until the end of his contract at the end of next season, not this season. The window to trade him was (in December), and teams weren’t aggressive enough to get him, so we’re excited about him being a part of our future.”"

With the trade deadline a little less than a month away, things are still up the air and nothing is set in stone. A GM’s word about a player isn’t always the most trustworthy thing, so don’t be surprised if Asik is shipped out of Houston.
