The Dallas Cowboys were flirting with the idea of hiring recently fired Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, and now the team has decided to seal the deal. According to Ian Rapoport from NFL Network, the Cowboys will be hiring Linehan to be the new play caller in Dallas.

This now raises the question of what will happen with offensive coordinator Bill Callahan, who has essentially been stripped of one of the duties he thought he’d be in charge of next season. With Linehan coming to town, the Cowboys aren’t officially replacing Callahan, but the writing seems to be on the wall.

Callahan’s name has been mentioned in the Cleveland Browns search for an offensive coordinator to replace Nov Turner, who left to join Mike Zimmer’s staff in Minnesota.

There’s no saying what will happen with Callahan though, as after reports surfaced that he wasn’t tickled by the idea of Linehan being brought in, he now seems receptive to being a team with Linehan. Only time will tell if things work out, but something clearly needs to change to spark the Cowboys in 2014.
